History

Starting in 2001, Wildwood began conducting short training courses in Kenya. Since that time Wildwood and it’s graduates have trained over 1000 lay-members in health evangelism work, none of which had anymore than a few weeks of training. Knowing this, LIGHT saw the need to offer for the first time a full six-month training in Kenya to better equip these dedicated medical missionaries. Leon & Irene Curfs, who spent one year at Wildwood and have been pastoring in Kenya for over five years agreed to lead this new initiative. In February 2009, we began this first six-month course at the South Kenya Conference headquarters with the help of two graduates from Wildwood’s College of Health Evangelism, one being a part of the Mission Extreme program. In the next year we plan to settle into a permanent location and build a broader ministry.

In just a few weeks another group of health evangelists will have completed the six-month training course and are eagerly waiting to put their skills to practice.

The project really needs a permanent training facility and it may be that there is an area opening up to start something small. We believe that we must start simple, small, and soon - and there is one acre of land available for only $1500 USD. If we are able to secure that land (and a few acres for agricultural purposes) we can then build some simple structures to establish a permanent training program in East Africa.
